Tony LaRussa begins his 15th and final season as the skipper of the Cards and they are currently sitting in first place in the NL Central. After acquiring Matt Holliday and signing him to a franchise high 7-year $120 million contract. They also acquired Felipe Lopez, a former Card himself, to a one year deal and RHP Brad Penny. The team also signed former Home Run Champion Mark McGwire as the teams Hitting Coach.
The Cardinals completed the month of April with a 15-8 record and have begun May the same way. Look for your St. Louis Cardinals to make their way back to the MLB Playoffs. In spite of with what the team has been through last season, the Cardinals have ten World Series, seventeen pennants, and eleven division titles - this is a team that will stay competitive for many years to come.
Past Seasons
The Cardinals have set a legacy of winning unmatched that sets expectations high for fans in '07. Spring began with tragedy for the Cardinals, however, with the death of relief pitcher Josh Hancock in April. They bounced back from a 4 game loss in July, beating San Diego 10-5 on August 6th. They also lost Scott Spezio due to substance abuse problems - with his replacement, Rick Ankiel, coming back from the minors to hit a three run homer.
In spite of what the team has been through this season, the Cardinals have ten World Series, seventeen pennants, and nine division titles - this is a team that will stay competitive for many years to come.
